Creating Quilts
For me, creating a quilt is using color and fabric to create an illusion or feeling. Many of my quilts from the mid 1990’s through 2010 were 3 D perspectives. I was inspired by M. C. Escher and Katie Pasquini-Masopust.
I began quilting in 1983, while living in NJ. At the time I had 2 small children, and soon had another! I found the support of a local quilt guild and quilt shops to be my incentive to try new things. At that time my projects were mostly hand pieced and hand quilted.
Upon moving back to Pennsylvania in late 1989, I was lucky to have a room to devote to my craft, and had a bit of time while the children went off to school. This was the period when I moved to the Headache, and Incongruity phase of my quilting. I was now doing much work on the sewing machine but designing on Freezer Paper. I called it Frigid Piecing
At that point I began teaching ‘on the road’, doing Guild Lectures and Workshops. It was becoming a small success but then I went back to work full time as a Computer Science professor. The children were older and eventually needed a college education. This put a dent into my quilting time. After retiring in 2012 I again had time and space to design and play again. I hope you enjoy my quilts.
